About James

A friendly, approachable, and accountable Canberra electrician.

I'm James Westmacott, the electrician and director behind It's Lit Electrical & Data.

When you contact It's Lit, you deal with me directly. I quote the job, I turn up on site, and I complete the work. There are no subcontractors or salespeople.

I'm Canberra born and bred, residing in Belconnen. I started this business because I was frustrated by tradies who couldn't or wouldn't explain their work clearly. My goal is to provide a more transparent, professional, and friendly service to local homeowners and businesses.

Experience, Qualifications & Business History

I believe in honesty & transparency, so here is a clear timeline of our experience and business history.

The Beginning

I was originally planning to go to university to study marine biology, but I chose to start an electrical apprenticeship at 17 as it felt like the right path (turns out, it was!).

Apprenticeship (2016-2019)

I completed my electrical apprenticeship through CIT Canberra while working for On Point Electrical, an established local contractor.

Licensing (2020)

I became a fully qualified and licensed electrician, holding ACT Electrical Licence No. 202107.

Mentorship

After qualifying, I continued to work under experienced local mentorship, gaining valuable experience in residential and commercial electrical work across Canberra.

Business Establishment (2023)

I founded It's Lit Electrical to provide a more personal, accountable service with a focus on clear communication.

Company Structure (2025)

The business transitioned to a company structure (It's Lit Electrical & Data Pty Ltd) as it grew.

We treat business age and trade experience separately so you have a clear and honest picture of who you are hiring.

What 10 years in the trade taught me

After ten years of doing electrical work in Canberra, I’ve discovered what really matters to people.

  • You want someone who shows up when they say they will.
  • You want to understand what's being done and why.
  • You want your space respected? No mess, no damage.
  • You want it done properly the first time.

Sounds simple, right? Yet somehow it's rare enough that doing these basics well makes you stand out.
